Item: Walking Stick
Make: Unknown
Age: Mid-late 19th century
Construction: Ebonized wood, brass, antler
Dimensions: 35 1/2" Tall x 1 3/4" Diameter
Condition: Excellent antique condition. The index finger of the hand may have broken at some point, but the thumb still acts as an indicator. Some wear at bottom tip. Brass has lovely patina. Please see photos.
Details: Black ebonized wood walking stick with an antler tip and a flared, flat brass knob surmounted by a round, ebonized disc inset with circles numbered 0-9 around the top edge. A carved hand with a decorative cuff is suspended at the center and freely spins to indicate these numbers. The brass and ebonized knob screws off the top of the walking stick, revealing a cylindrical brass compartment holding five tiny carved and painted poker dice, 5/16" square, and a pencil. No discernible maker's marks.
